Invisalign®

If you have crowded and crooked teeth and need some orthodontic work done, you need not assume braces are required. Metal brackets and wires do work well from an orthodontic point of view, and today, there is another option called Invisalign®. It works well orthodontically and  appeals to busy adults who don’t want to wear metal braces.

Invisalign works on the same principles as braces, but it uses removable aligners, often called clear braces. They look like teeth whitening trays and they are custom-made as part of your Invisalign treatment plan.

How Invisalign Works

Dr. Kar will do a thorough dental examination to make sure that you are a good candidate for Invisalign. If you are, he will then take digital photos and measurements and gather all the data necessary to devise your tooth-straightening plan.

The Invisalign company will make your entire set of aligners according to Dr. Kar’s specifications and ship them here. During your next visit, he will explain how to use the aligners and give you the first pairs.

For two weeks, you wear the first pair, upper and lower. The aligners are clear and most people will not notice them unless they look closely. You should wear them for at least 22 hours each day taking them out only for meals, brushing and flossing.

After two weeks, you discard the first pair and start wearing the second pair. Each pair exerts slightly different pressures on different teeth at different angles, according to your treatment plan. When you start to wear a new pair, you will at first feel the difference, but you will soon get used to the new feel. Each pair picks up where the previous pair left off and by the time you have worn the last pair for two weeks, your teeth will be straight and your smile beautifully transformed.

Some Common Questions About Invisalign®

Will Invisalign work for my teenager?

The Invisalign company offers Invisalign Teen®, boasting additional features to ensure your teenager gets the best benefits from the Invisalign teeth-straightening experience. Children of a younger age may or may not be candidates for Invisalign. Generally, the child must have second baby teeth and partially erupted molars, at minimum. Invisalign requires greater responsibility and is generally more costly than traditional metal braces. Dr. Kar will go over all the benefits and disadvantages with you to help you make an informed decision.

Can I visit any dentist to enjoy Invisalign treatment?

Any dentist wishing to treat patients using Invisalign must complete specialized training. Additionally, the doctor must keep his or her skills sharp by continually treating patients and must complete ongoing clinical training. General dentists and cosmetic dentists who follow these regulations earn the title of “Preferred Provider.” Dr. Brian Kar is a Preferred Invisalign Provider, and has the knowledge, skill and expertise to ensure your comfort and safety, as well as your most beautiful smile when treatment has been completed.

Dr. Kar is also qualified to tell you if and when other options such as conventional orthodontics (braces) or porcelain veneers would provide better results than Invisalign.

Will my diet be restricted during Invisalign treatment?

Because the aligners are removable, you will be allowed to eat and drink as you please during treatment. This is one of the great advantages of Invisalign. Of course, you’ll want to brush and floss daily, particularly prior to reinserting your aligners, to maintain fresh breath and excellent oral hygiene.
Invisalign clear invisible braces are a dynamic method for improving dental health and the beauty of your smile.
